Planning
Understanding Mechanics and Metrics: During the level planning stage, it's crucial to have a deep understanding of game mechanics and metrics. This is necessary for setting numerical parameters and formulating rules that will be applied when shaping the game space. This process includes aspects such as character height, jump distance, movement speed, and other characteristics that define the gaming experience. I conduct thorough testing of all types of weapons, abilities, and grenades. The obtained data is then used for level development, ensuring comfortable gameplay within the specified parameters.
Reference Gathering: At this stage, the search and exploration of various sources of information, including images and levels from other games, etc., are conducted. In general, all possible sources that can serve as inspiration in level development are considered. This provides an opportunity to create a game space that is more realistic and engaging for the player.
Level Actions: I contemplate the actions taking place within the level and what will linger in the player's memory. My level should have a multi-tiered structure, offering various mobility options for players, including different means of traversal. Additionally, it's crucial to create both open and closed areas to provide a variety of tactical opportunities and ensure an engaging gameplay experience.
Level Concept: I shape the overall concept for the level, including its theme, objectives, and key features. This process helps me clearly define how the level will interact with the player, providing a purposeful and immersive gaming experience.

Documentation

Documentation plays a crucial role in Level Design and is an integral part of successful level creation. Here are several aspects highlighting the importance of documentation in Level Design:
  • Clear Understanding of Level Goals:
Documentation helps define the level's goals, primary objectives, and overall structural plan clearly. This is important for achieving a specific gaming experience.
  • Identification of Key Moments and Locations:
Documenting helps highlight key moments, points of interest, and gameplay interaction elements. This aids player orientation and creates memorable experiences.
  • Consistency in Stylistic Decisions:
Documentation enables a clear definition of the level's stylistic decisions, including architecture, lighting, decorations, and overall atmosphere. This is crucial for creating a cohesive and appealing gaming environment.
  • Balance and Performance:
By describing balance and resource distribution, documentation helps maintain good level performance, essential for a quality gaming experience.
  • Streamlining Team Collaboration:
Documentation serves as a tool for development teams, improving communication among designers, artists, programmers, and other project contributors.
  • Testing and Iterations:
Documentation facilitates level testing and subsequent iterations. Testing results, observations, and suggestions can be effectively documented for future reference.

Creating a Game Environment
When all the preparatory stages are taken into account, work in the editor begins. At this stage, it is important to focus on the following aspects:
  • Designing the game environment, including working with the level's primitive geometry.
  • Setting up lighting and time of day.
  • Periodic testing of the level in the editor to evaluate its quality and functionality.
Level Design Techniques
In the process of creating this level, I utilized several approaches that other departments should consider when working with this level to ensure that all gameplay ideas function as intended.
Mobility Mechanics
The level is designed with diverse mechanics, including dodging, sliding, wall running, and other elements, to provide players with engaging and versatile movement options, maintaining dynamic and thrilling gameplay.
Diverse pathways
Diverse pathways in the level create opportunities for various player strategies, contribute to the formation of unique tactics, and support dynamic and engaging gameplay, making each gaming session unique.
Navigation
The navigation in the level is supported by a variety of modified elements in each base, such as color variations, as well as the use of lighting, signage, and shape cues. This ensures players have an intuitive and clear direction in the game space.
